Position Purpose

The instructor will teach a course giving an overview of the basics of local government finance in North Carolina from a very practical perspective. The course will introduce students to the basic job functions that are typically housed in the Finance Department, with more attention given to those that are found in smaller governments. This course also will tie those functions back to the requirements for all local governments found in the NC General Statutes, primarily the Local Government Budget and Fiscal Control Act (G.S. 159 Article 3).

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors in Accounting, Business, or related field

A combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with local government finance.

Essential Duties

1) Teach assigned classes.
2} Maintain suitable class records which show student membership hours, academic progress, student grading system, etc.
3) Provide feedback to students regarding course progression.
4) Communicate with students via Moodle as appropriate
5) Development, maintenance, and evaluation of educational materials pertinent to individual and total program/course needs
6) Recommending adoption or discontinuance of textbooks and/or other instructional supplies and equipment to the Director, Occupational Extension.
7) Experiment with new, innovative teaching techniques.
