Position Purpose

VGCC is continuously recruiting for part-time instructor in the following area:

Forklift Operator

Minimum Qualifications

Must have five years of general industry safety experience. (A college degree in occupational safety and health, a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation may be substituted for two years of experience.) Obtain guidance on whether you meet this requirement from the OSHA Training Institute (OTI) Education Center in your state.

Successful completion of the OSHA course #511, Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry.

Preferred Qualifications

Five years of general industry safety experience.

College degree in occupational safety and health, a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation.

Successful completion of OSHA course #501, Trainer Course in OSHA Standards for General Industry.

Have experience in forklift maintenance on battery powered lift trucks.

Physical Demands

Must be able to lift objects from a lower to high position or move objects horizontally from position to position.
Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
Must be able to stand or sit for substantial periods of time.
Must be able to work around loud noises.
Must be able to physically demonstrate the use of forklift equipment.

Essential Duties

1) Teach assigned forklift classes.
2) Assist the Director, Occupational Extension with all instructional activities within the program to include, but not limited to:

a. Development, maintenance, and evaluation of educational materials pertinent to individual and total program needs
b. Maintaining suitable class records which show student membership hours, academic progress, student grading system, etc.
c. Recommending adoption or discontinuance of textbooks and/or other instructional supplies and equipment to the Program Head or Department Chairperson.
d. Recommending new books, magazines, materials and equipment for use in the LRC to Director, Occupational Extension.
e. Maintaining appropriate course documents, such as syllabi, objectives, tests, lesson plans, etc.
3) Attend scheduled meetings.
4) Serve as an advisor for assigned students in matters pertaining to an adviseeā€™s academic progress, scheduling and related matters.
5) Engage in professional development as necessary to ensure material and curriculum meets standards established by OSHA.
6) Experiment with new, innovative teaching techniques.

Salary Range $22.50 to $25.75 an hour based on level of education.
